HOW TO BUY THE RIGHT SOFA

Sofa is a place where you sit elegantly while entertaining guests at home and a place you lay lazily on a Saturday noon watching your favourite TV show. It sure is a very important part of our home and we want to make it look good all year round.

Getting a sofa is like an investment for obvious reasons. Its not something you buy every now and then. And once bought, it shouldn't be boring to look at. I say this, because a lot of people tend to get tired of the way their sofa look and complain on how there is barely any way they could add a bit of creative punch decorating it. Here is a secret, if you choose the right sofa you might end up loving it for a really long long time. That said, I'll share with you few quick tips to keep in mind while shopping for a sofa:

Sofa with a Neutral Tone

With furniture as large as a sofa, be smart and play safe. Choose shades that are neutral and toned down. You do want pops of colour around your home for an interesting look, but it doesn't have to be your sofa. For your sofa upholstery, shades of grey, white, and black or beige are highly recommended.

But if you like to add some colour, navy blue or maroon will work great. I personally love grey shades, similar to the sofa from fabfurnish pictured above. The reason being, with colours like these you can easily work up an appealing look with pillows and throw blankets. Neutral shades act as the perfect backdrop when experimenting with colour, print, and pattern trends.

Sofa that Fits the Space

Consider the size of the sofa. Especially if you are getting it online, make sure you check the dimensions. The ideal sofa will fit right into your home, without cramming up your space as you will need rest of the place to arrange your other furniture pieces. So make sure that the sofa is proportionate to the available space.

For instance, a large L-shape sectional for a spacious living room is perfect. Whereas a two-seater love seat sofa in a tiny apartment will fit just well. The ones we usually find in Indian decor is the wooden slatted type, like the above sofa from pepperfry. Its super space saving and looks ethnic.

Sofa that Suits your Style

Sofas come in a variety of designs. From the classic chesterfield sofa with tufts all over to the Tuxedo sofa that emanates sheer upscale living. You have a variety of options to choose. When I went through a few online furniture stores, I particularly fell in love with the leather chesterfield sofas from Afydecor. I like how its classy appeal is enough to make a grand impression in your living room.

Consider your lifestyle, your personality and your home's overall look and feel before choosing a sofa. Remember, it needs to match and complement them. Like, be minimal if there is less space, since too much of ornate details and patterns might make the place look busy. Or if you have a large family, its good to have a sectional sofa that seats more.

Apart from these tips, keep in mind other details as well. Whether you buy sofas online or from a store, check its quality and material. A good handcrafted wooden sofa will last you years and is a worthy investment piece. If you are buying sofas online, check whether they provide free shipping and after sales service

Hope these tips come handy while picking the right sofa for your home!
